DnPW:Rules and Etiquette

This page outlines the rules and expected behaviour for editors and visitors of the Dan and Phil Wiki (DnPW). These guidelines exist to keep the wiki factual, collaborative, and respectful to both its subjects and community. These rules apply to all contributors. They are designed to protect both the community and the reputation of the wiki’s subjects. Suggestions for updates or clarifications may be made on this page’s talk page.

Core principles

• Treat others with respect. Disagreement is normal, but personal attacks, harassment, or intimidation are not tolerated.
• Work collaboratively. Assume good faith and use talk pages to resolve disagreements.
• Keep content factual. This wiki documents verified information about Dan Howell and Phil Lester.
• Respect privacy. Do not speculate on personal relationships, addresses, or any information that has not been made public by Dan or Phil themselves.
• Avoid gossip and rumours. If it cannot be sourced from official material, it does not belong in the main namespace.

Editing conduct

• Summarise your edits clearly in the edit summary box.
• Avoid edit wars. If a disagreement continues, discuss it on the article’s talk page instead of reverting repeatedly.
  • An edit war is defined as 3 consecutive edits that remove or drastically alter the edit of another user on the same page. This usually means reverting someone's addition 3 times in a row.
• Do not blank or vandalise pages. Test formatting in the sandbox or your userpage instead.
• Be cautious with humour or opinions; articles should remain informative and neutral.
• Do not post copyrighted content in full. Short quotes or screenshots under fair use are acceptable when directly relevant.

Reliable sources

• Official uploads, verified social media, published interviews, and reputable news outlets are considered reliable.
• Fan forums, anonymous posts, or private social media accounts are not acceptable sources. These can be included as sources to back up other reputable sources, but shouldn't be the sole source.
• Use timestamps and citations whenever referencing a video or livestream.
• Speculative or unverified claims should be removed when a reliable source can't be found.

Fan and user content

• Fan theories, interpretations, or creative works belong in the User or Project namespaces, not the main namespace.
• The main namespace is reserved for factual documentation and information supported by reliable sources.
• If a fan concept later becomes canon or is referenced by Dan or Phil, it may then be documented in the main namespace.

Behavioural expectations

• Assume good intentions from others unless proven otherwise.
• Refrain from personal remarks about editors or subjects.
• Avoid spam, self-promotion, or linking to irrelevant external sites.
• Respect administrator decisions. If you disagree, raise your concern on the administrator’s talk page calmly and with evidence.
• Breaking the rules repeatedly may result in editing restrictions or account blocks.

Reporting issues

If you encounter vandalism, harassment, or inappropriate edits:

• Use the “undo” or “rollback” functions if available.
• Leave a short summary describing the correction.
• Notify an administrator on their talk page if the problem continues.
